Describe your product and why it is important for the Research4Life community?

 Angela D’Agostino

D’Agostino: “ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) Global is a collection of more than 5.5 million doctoral and master’s degree documents, three million of which are full-text. The collection is built with partnership from more than 4,100 institutions in 60 countries.”

“It is important for the Research4Life community to have access to this graduate work in one location alongside tools that provide insights into the connected global network of research. The efficient research techniques provided in the platform will help the Research4Life community build their own research and learning on a comprehensive global view of any topic.”

“PQDT includes features like Citation Connections, which helps researchers quickly identify other relevant and related works. This citation analysis transcends the limitations of keyword searches, bringing together research despite differences in terminology or language, surfacing diverse voices, ideas and perspectives.”

What is your motivation for giving access to this product to Research4Life users?

D’Agostino: “Dissertations and theses are research documents generated by graduate students in pursuit of a high academic degree, contributing innovative knowledge with social and economic value for our global society. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses’ mission is to bring together and amplify graduate scholars’ voices from around the world. We believe helping them to achieve their research and career ambitions also improves their contributions to our society globally. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses is committed to disseminating knowledge and ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented and have equitable discoverability, which is why we invest in the enhancement of metadata. Additionally, we extract and link the citations and provide English translations for abstracts for every title that is received, ensuring that all content is equally discoverable and integrated on our platform.”

What impact do you hope to achieve through this partnership – for the Research4Life community and your organisation?

D’Agostino: “We hope to expand access to this emerging research so that all corners of the world can discover and build upon it.”

Are there any product features you would particularly like to highlight to Research4Life users?

D’Agostino:

“Citation Connections is a shared citation knowledge graph that recommends the most relevant sources.”

“eLearning Companions are embedded in the platform and provide quick guidance on how to uncover value from dissertations. These are also available in 7 languages.”

Do you participate in any other initiatives that provide access to your content in developing countries and which would be complementary to Research4Life?

D’Agostino: “We provide a variety of other resources to Research4Life, including our Summon discovery system, which enables researchers to search the Research4Life collection in one spot. Other content provided by Clarivate includes Early European Books Wellcome Trust Library Collection, which enables research into historical medical sources, and Environmental Science Collection, which provides foundational scholarship on environmental topics. Clarivate also offers Current Contents Connect, a rapid alerting service database.”
