For over two decades, Research4Life has bridging the digital research divide for researchers, librarians, doctors, policymakers and many others in lower-income countries. Our mission is to ensure that knowledge knows no boundaries, and that everyone, regardless of their location, has access to vital research resources.
Despite our efforts serving over 11,500 institutions worldwide, we’ve only scratched the surface of what Research4Life can achieve. We know that there is still much to be done in terms of awareness, reach, understanding, effective usage and impact. While we’ve made significant strides through the dedication of volunteers and in-kind contributions, scaling up our efforts remains a challenging task. That’s where Friends of Research4Life comes in.
What is Friends of Research4Life?
Friends of Research4Life is our fundraising nonprofit, established to bolster the critical mission of the Research4Life partnership. Our goal is to ensure full participation in the global information environment, and we need your help to make this vision a reality.
Our Board comprises nine dedicated external members, along with two ex-officio positions from Research4Life. They are instrumental in guiding our fundraising initiatives, vetting projects for resource allocation, and holding us accountable for our progress.
After nearly 20 years of participation in Research4Life, I have been privileged to observe first-hand the opportunities it has provided to the research community. But the many thousands of individuals who have benefited from the partnership’s activities are only a fraction of its potential. Additional funding will enable Research4Life to extend its outreach and further narrow the gap between scientific communities in the northern and southern hemisphere.

How can you help?
- Core Mission Fund: An annual donation to our Core Mission Fund ensures that all researchers can benefit from Research4Life. Your contribution will help us improve our essential infrastructure, including computer and content delivery systems, and expand technical support. We also need resources to fix underlying technical constraints, and provide offline accessibility.
- Our users are requesting expanded MOOCs and webinars, essential for effective usage. Your donation will help us translate content and scaling up training.
- Professional CRM software is crucial to expanding awareness, streamlining communication, and building our community.
Crucially, our Country Connectors Network project is expanding to deliver targeted, localized support in 14 countries, and is supported by the Elsevier Foundation, Springer Nature, Taylor and Francis and Wiley Foundation. To reach our target of 40 countries within 6 years, we need your help.
