We are delighted to announce that ICE Publishing and Mathematical Sciences Publishers (MSP) have joined the Research4Life partnership. Together, they are adding 62 high quality titles to the Research4Life collection. These titles will broaden the range of disciplines we provide by bringing more technical content, beyond traditional medical & life sciences. This new partnership further enhances the services we offer to our users by expanding the breadth of disciplines and depth of quality content from prestigious publishers. We are also pleased to announce that MSPs content will be free to access for Group A and Group B countries.

We spoke to Mike Cookson, at ICE Publishing and Emmy Pierce at MSP to find out more:

Why did you join Research4Life?

Emmy: “MSP’s goal has always been to serve the scientific research community. In practice, this has often meant investing heavily in our authors and editors, presenting their work in its best possible form, and making our resulting content available at the lowest sustainable prices. But, of course, even these low prices can be an insurmountable barrier for some parts of the research community – not to mention the technical obstacles that often exist and which MSP alone, as a nonprofit ourselves, do not have the resources to help others surmount. We believe Research4Life can help us bridge that gap, and help MSP more effectively serve the whole scientific community – regardless of ability to pay.”

Mike: “ICE Publishing are a signatory to the SDG Publishers Compact, therefore we are keen to seek out opportunities and partners that enable us to further our commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The SDG Publishers Compact aims to accelerate progress to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Signatories from across the publishing industry have pledged a commitment to develop sustainable practices and act as champions of the SDGs during the Decade of Action (2020-2030).

Are there any titles that you would like to highlight to our users?

Mike: “Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers -Municipal Engineer because it is our journal about community, and it has published lots of international development papers over the years.”

Emmy: “Geometry & Topology, MSP’s flagship journal, is the leading journal in its field, and has been in regular publication since 1997.”

The Tunisian Journal of Mathematics, which aims to stimulate mathematics research in Africa meeting high international standards.”

Involve, a Journal of Mathematics is our journal for student research. All manuscripts accepted for publication are considered publishable in quality journals in their respective fields, and include a minimum of one-third student authorship. Bridging the gap between the extremes of purely undergraduate-research journals and mainstream research journals, Involve is a great resource for inspiring mathematical exploration in a new generation, and an opportunity for students who are serious about their research.”

Do you participate in any other initiatives that provide access to your content in developing countries and which would be complementary to Research4Life?

Emmy: “We participate in Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).”

EIFL works with libraries to enable access to knowledge in developing and transition economy countries across the globe.
