In this Q&A The Journal of Rheumatology shares their thoughts about the importance of global access to medical research, the journal’s initiatives to support researchers, and how Research4Life users can benefit from this new partnership

Why is it important for your journal to be part of Research4Life?

We pride ourselves on publishing content that educates and gives clinicians worldwide the tools to help patients with rheumatic disease. We are pleased to facilitate access to our research, particularly for those who may encounter barriers in obtaining this essential information.

Why is it important for rheumatology research to be widely accessible?

The Journal of Rheumatology upholds the principles of high-quality publishing and providing access to timely, important research to a global audience. We believe that research should be effectively disseminated worldwide including to countries facing financial hardship.

Do you participate in any other initiatives that provide access to your content in developing countries? How do these initiatives complement Research4Life?

Researchers from low- and middle-income countries can read and publish in The Journal of Rheumatology at a reduced rate or with no fee. We believe this can help to support equity in research.

Is there a particular product feature that you would particularly like to highlight to Research4Life users?

We have recently launched a new section titled “Rheumatology Around the World,” which provides the opportunity for rheumatologists from low-income countries and underrepresented communities to share their critical research. We are eager to publish these important studies and are currently accepting submissions. We encourage Research4Life users who qualify to consider submitting their research studies for review.
